Performative journey into the night
An uncommonly strange Fribourg is the setting for this new work by Massimo Furlan. Like tourists of their own life, the audience heads off on a bus ride through the night to seemingly familiar and mundane places where over time their shadowy underbelly begins to emerge. As the projector light moves around, it picks up furtive scenes that appear to burst out of the darkness. A movement, a silhouette, a group: strange, poetic figures populate this night. Together, these flashes observed from behind the coach windows tell a fragmented tale of a beautiful yet troubling space that increasingly draws the audience in.
The Swiss artist Massimo Furlan is known for his highly visual performances often tinged with melancholy and oddball humour.
