Large-scale embroidery performance
During eight days, Luiza Moraes embroiders for hours on end. On a huge piece of cloth, the performer tells the tale of a feminine practice traditionally associated with domesticity, solitude and submissiveness. In the past, embroidery was one of the chief pastimes of women in the private quarters of bourgeois families. Today, the artist appropriates this old-fashioned hobby to denounce the patriarchy with her ten fingers tracing running stiches and backstitches. One stich at a time, the thread expresses a powerful objection, a seizure of power and the reinvention of social roles. The audience witnesses the lengthy creative process. The finished piece is displayed on the two final days of the festival.
