Festival Belluard Bollwerk International

Pepe Elmas Naswa

This exhilarating show explores a provocative, incredibly energetic dance. A dance, that originated in the streets of Kinshasa and embodies both the frustration and the pride of that city’s neglected youth.

The six dancers have learned the so called serpent dance of shegué (street children) and kuluna (youth gangs). Their moves are laden with expression, force and passion. During one hour, a DJ and an MC push the group to go further and further and to release all of their energy. And what energy! Provocation, sparring, here the right of the fittest prevails. And yet the dance expresses a sort of transitory joy, as if to say: I’m dancing here and now. And nothing else exists!

The choreographer, Pepe Elmas Naswa, offers a street dance workshop. More information here.
