Festival Belluard Bollwerk International

Programm

Lubomyr Melnyk

(Ukraine)

Lubomyr Melnyk’s music is an uninterrupted flow of piano notes. The intense concentration displayed by the 70-year-old father of continuous music, aka the prophet of the piano, his ecstatic energy, are a delight to behold.

Lubomyr Melnyk’s music feels like it will never stop. He composes as he plays. He explores lines and individual rhythmic cells. The notes bubble, undulate and gradually expand into vast, interlinked frameworks. Cascades of notes, torrents and rivers of sound: his music seems to channel Nature itself. Melnyk’s music bears traces of Ravi Shankar’s influence, as well as of the persistent, repetitive structures of Steve Reich or Philip Glass.
